Legendary activist and writer Angela Davis and actor @YaraShahidi joined @osopepatrisse, a co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, for ‘POWER: From the Mouths of the Occupied’ at New York’s Public Theater on Sunday night. The three women held a discussion around excerpts from Cullors’s documentary performance project, which gives black subjects a platform to tell firsthand accounts of negative interactions with police. POWER interrogates the ways in which state violence reverberates through communities, while foregrounding the bodies and voices of real people who have survived criminalization, brutality and humiliation.
