My old man worked for the @usps_world. When he retired, they gave him this piece of paper. Mom gave it to me last weekend when I was visiting her so I’m gonna have it framed and hung up at my house. My Dad’s job paid for my whole life. His job description from the #usps @wikipedia page is described thusly: “Mail handlers and processors, prepare, separate, load and unload mail and parcels, by delivery ZIP code and station, for the clerks. They work almost exclusively at the plants or larger mail facilities.” So I am the proud child of a civilian employee of the Post Office - an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government. My Dad sorted the mail on the night shift to pay for all my childhood days. #KevinSmith #dad #postoffice #grateful

We will never know just how hard our parents worked and how much hardship they endured to give us the best life possible. My sister and I didn’t have much growing up but our parents did whatever it too for us to have a shot at a better future. Mom worked two jobs, one was as a CNA (mom has a special place in her heart for elderly people and loves helping them and taking care of them,) and to make extra money, she would work as a cook ,waitress, and dishwasher for a local restaurant. In the summer, i would ride my bike up to the diner and she would have an awesome burger and fries waiting for me when i got there. So amazing. She’s an amazing mom. And my dad was the same. He had a 80% disability rating from the military from hitting a mine with driving a Jeep in the Army. He was Airborne. He spent 22 months in the hospital. Had to learn how to walk again among other things. He lost his left knee completely. It was crazy. He wore a big and heavy metal brace on that leg. But even with the disability, dad worked many jobs. He worked at the local shoe factory, mowing yards, hauling water, and worked as a mechanic. Someone with his disability and pain level should have just sat at home and collected a check, but not dad. He had a great work ethic and was a shining example of hard work, even in the face of pain and disability. He’s my hero and so is my mom.

My self and my mother work for the postal service. My mother was a Postmaster and I work as a mail processing clerk for a great many years at night and it is awesome you are proud of your Dad because it is tremendously hard work and also it’s hard work for the families who have parents or spouses working different hours than them so it’s awesome to have a connection and also wanted to say I also joined @ww because of you and I have lost 25 lbs already and for once I think I have a chance to lose the weight I need to. So thanks for your respect for the USPS, your films and comics and your support of healthier eating. Best wishes!

As the son of a retired mail carrier, I relate to this on a lot of levels. I've always had mad respect for the folks that work at the post office, especially when I see people being shitty about them (which happens from time to time). My dad's job at the post office was a path to the middle class for our family, and my time growing up is defined by our standard of life before and after my dad got that job.

My Dad also retired from the USPS after working for 30+ years mostly on 2nd and 3rd shifts. Even after the machine he worked on became obsolete due to computer scanners he still worked hard sorting to support his family. I am his proud daughter ❤️🙏

My Dad retired as a postmaster but started as a carrier. @thatkevinsmith you are a recipient of the greatest gift a human can give another, Sacrifice. So from one mail kid to another, stay greatful. Thank you sharing this.
