Let’s talk about meat baby.
I’ve got quite a bit of question on land hunting so I will repost something I wrote last year. Just a heads up, its a a little graphic.
As I see the bullet enter the deer's heart, a lot of emotions are running through my mind. My heart is racing and I can feel my pulse in my temples. It's the first land animal I have ever killed. I go down the hill to go retrieve my kill, tears are running down my cheeks as I hear my friend's deer screaming as he gives it a final kill shot about a hundred meters away. I keep repeating to myself that I eat meat so I have to be able to do this. My whole life I have be desensitized to where my meat is from and I only have been exposed to the "final product" - a piece of animal under plastic wrap. I put it on my back to carry it out and I can feel his warm belly against my t-shirt - I told myself that at least he didn't spent his life stuck in a cage in horrible conditions. Weirdly, the guilty feeling went away when I saw the pieces of meat being all cut up - this is what I'm used to seeing and eating. This is what meat is for most of us. But we tend to forget where it comes from and what it used to be. Or we choose to forget, as I did. We ate the deer the following day, with a mix of satisfaction, respect and gratefulness. I needed this. Nothing is a bigger threat than the blind eye we are willing to turn on food sourcing.
I look forward to your comments below!! #hunting #foodsourcing #realtalks #meat #food #emotions #wild #openheart #openness #talkischange #debate #truth

When I was very young we were living in Idaho, next door to a single man who hunted deer for food. Seeing our struggling family with 3 small children he proposed to my father that they go in together and rent a meat freezer to keep in our garage. We would allow him to hang his kills in the garage until he could butcher them and stock the freezer. We could use anything in the freezer at anytime, and we did, we lived off of it. The best and most ethical food we ever had. Interestingly, though the heart shot is most recommended, he made his kills with one shot to the head. I asked him why and he said that if he missed his target, the animal ran free. He didn’t want to chase a suffering animal through the brush. 💕

I could never give up meat, but I’m not a fan of how most of our meat is produced in the US. I have never hunted, but I have always wanted to try. I turned 30 last month and have decided to do a lot of things I always wanted to but never have for various reasons. I’m learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the Korean language, finishing my degree, and next in line is archery for bow hunting. My goal is to live on the outskirts of a town somewhere (most likely in Texas), hunt for all my meat, grow my own vegetables, and enjoy my life. I do love fishing, though, and after following you, would love to take up spear fishing in the future. Thanks for sharing and getting involved in this arena.

Trophy hunting is tacky as hell, but I have mad respect for hunting for sustenance. It's something I've thought about a lot as a conscientious meat eater. Not sure I'd ever want to pull the trigger myself, I'm not a big fan of robbing a wild animal that's struggled it's whole life to survive of it's life. I know environmentally it's messed up, but I feel better eating animals that were born/raised to be food, vs pillaging wild animals that have truly lived. No judgement on anyone that respectfully hunts, just my personal feeling. The commercial meat industry definitely needs to make strides toward better sustainability.

Organic, free range meat. You can't beat it!! I still haven't gotten a deer but I look forward to that day so much! I've done alot of farm animals and I always focus on a quick, clean, painless kill. No matter what meat will always be part of my diet and harvesting your own is important to really appreciate that whatever you want

Most people who don’t hunt will never understand what we get out of it. If they understood why we hunt they would probably think differently about us. There is a feeling of joy and sadness when we harvest an animal.👍👍👍
