Belize’s Great Blue Hole was one of the most mysterious places on the planet until Erika Bergman and her team of scientists dove into its depths last month. “You lose all of that Caribbean sunlight and it just turns completely black…with absolutely no life,” Bergman said. The team discovered that the world’s largest sinkhole – measuring almost 1,000 feet across and more than 410 feet deep – is pretty much trash-free and has very little visible human impact.
