Normally, the first immediate reaction when a difficult situation arises is simply the past trying to recreate itself — old conditioning seeking to strengthen itself because that is what the mind knows best. When we are learning to live in a new way, taking a moment before moving forward helps us see more clearly, opening pathways of action that can bring us different results than what we have gotten in the past. Without patience and acceptance of our imperfections it is difficult to build new habits. The proper balance of patience and determination makes great goals possible.
