Behind me is the Jetavanaramaya stupa, or Buddhist monument, located in the ruins of Jetavana monastery in the world heritage city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.
When it was built by King Mahasena of Anuradhapura (273–301) it was 400ft and the third tallest structure in the world.
It is believed that this monument was built upon the enclosure where the monk who brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka, Mahinda Maha Thero, was cremated.
Families come from all over Sri Lanka to pray here. It was so beautiful to see in person.
