Arts editor @belleannee here checking in with a bit of architecture & design for your arts and culture this weekend. This is @spencer.house, the sumptuously designed and impeccably preserved 18th-century residence built by the first #EarlOfSpencer, an ancestor of the late #PrincessDiana. See, way back when, when a noble title was bestowed upon you, the expectation of a solid social schedule was also bestowed. What else would a good noble Earl do besides build the most ambitious example of architecture and design of his day to host all those fabulous parties? Even back then (built 1756 -1766) the house was immediately hailed as one of the finest examples of its type and “subtle” wasn’t in the designers vocabulary. Lucky for us it has survived 250 years intact and is available for tours (as well as private hire if you want to be nobility for the day). ? // #thisislondon #london #londonart || ?
