The past few days have been some sort of magic. We’ve done something exciting that I want to share with you. It all started in Mexico. A meaningful event through @pnemcova brought @jeannedekroon and I together. She’s a ray of light and I love the depth of her blue eyes and her big smile. I can relate so much to her curiosity about life and all living things. We connected in a special way and I simply fell in love with the way she bravely left it all behind at age of 24 to create an ethical brand with vintage fabrics ( @zazi.vintage ) to support artisan communities of women around the world and fund educational costs of girls in rural India, where a lot of her inspiration comes from. She has been working on Zazi ever since, trusting life with every move she makes. She proposed me to join an upcoming big project with the United Nations and The Ethical Fashion Initiative. They were going to shoot the new collection in Uzbekistan. I knew first hand this is creating a big impact and instantly wanted to be a part of it. The whole idea of The Ethical Fashion Initiative @ethicalfashion partnering up with @zazi.vintage is acting as a bridge by connecting marginalized artisan communities with global lifestyle brands. My mind couldn’t stop wandering about it. This was about people taking real action. Not charity. Not empty words with zero transparency. Just work. By linking the international brands with the artisan, an opportunity is given to these communities. An opportunity that otherwise they just can’t have access to, as they are in remote locations with no access to the bigger picture. This project is about improving the artisan’s life by creating employment for them in a sustainable way. They have fair and decent working conditions, and they work with local fabrics like raw Afghan silk. By sharing a couple days with the incredible women from the UN, I discovered that this project really goes far beyond Uzbekistan. With support of the @unitednations and @europeaid, The Ethical Fashion Initiative works in Kenya, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Mali, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Afghanistan and recently expanded to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Ivory Coast. ✨
