via @luomovogue ? ‘INFINITE VISIONS’ Edited by @lucykumaramoore - If you’re looking to forecast the future of visual imagery and mood in fashion, then who better to ask than five trailblazing photographers whose aesthetics are contributing to the wider reshaping of the business? Here we survey the opinions of just such an exceptional portfolio - the talents of their generation. Each individual has an utterly distinct point of view that contributes to the richness of the wider conversation: it would be inappropriate to suggest that one type of aesthetic is more important or dominant than another. And yet recently, amidst the competing jostle of irony, realism and pastiche in image-making, a glimmer of consensus has emerged that might just cast a fresh light on elegance. What might this quality be, in the 21st century? This week’s photographer is @jamie.hawkesworth - ‘Mombasa, 2018’ - ‘This image is a still from a new film by British photographer #JamieHawkesworth made in Mombasa, Kenya, in 2018. It was included in his London exhibited titled ‘A blue painted fence’, which brought together film, photographs and drawings that were the outcome of an extended trip to Kenya. During this period of travel, Hawkesworth prioritised a way of making pictures that was based on chance, intuition and responding to his environment, rather than on pre-planning. He describes how one day he saw, from the seat of his car, two schoolgirls crossing the street in their white uniforms, and was struck by their composure and energy.’ Keep reading the text in our new issue. #NewElegance
