Joseph Simmons aka Run from #RunDMC spitting some rhymes back in the day! Right after I graduated from @nyutisch I went to Miami on vacation with Run (Joey). One day he and I were on the beach hanging out and just really enjoying ourselves and were supposed to go back to NY the next day when I broke the news and told him that I wasn’t going back....that I was just going to hang out in Miami and keep enjoying myself. Joey got really angry and disappointed and went into the most passionate and motivational speech I ever heard from anyone in my life. He called me a lazy scurvy piece of floxum and said if I stayed in #MiamiBeach, (which was my home where my family was but more importantly is where I am most comfortable), that I was never going to amount to anything. He said I needed to challenge myself and work hard if I ever wanted to succeed and pointed out that hanging out in my home town and partying with my friends wasn’t going to accomplish that. He knew my passion and dream was to be a film director and he suggested I go back to NY and start filming anything and everything I could until I reached my goal. DO NOT STOP until it happens he said.... do not waste anymore time! I took his advice came back to NY and ended up directing my first music video for #PublicEnemy soon after that trip and ultimately directed over 100 music videos, one of them for Run DMC. At 26 I directed my first movie #MoneyTalks. I am grateful to Joey for his constant inspiration and generosity of spirit and mostly for caring enough to yell at me and push me hard enough to realize not to waste time in making my dream come true.
