In Merseyside today The Prince of Wales visited the Royal Albert Dock in recognition of its new Royal status ahead of the 175th anniversary of the Dock in 2021. #RoyalVisitMerseyside
The Dock was opened in 1846 by Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria.
Royal status was granted by The Queen in 2018 recognising the importance and historical significance of the Dock, a Grade I listed site.
The Prince was taken on a tour of the Docks, which included visiting people who run local businesses and seeing the International Slavery Museum.
The Prince reopened the regenerated Dock in May 1988 after years of decline and near demolition.
Today, His Royal Highness also visited the iconic St George’s Hall where The Prince met Nelson Mandela’s daughter and saw some of Mandela’s drawings which have been donated to the Hall.
The Prince then visited the Marie Curie Hospice as Patron of the charity which offers care to people living with a terminal illness.
