I’m so honored to be recognized by AT&T as a Future Maker and I hope I can encourage you all to #DreamInBlack too. My confidence and pride in being a BLACK American is not a jab at any other culture. It’s the expression of strength and resilience I found in the story of the people that look like me. There are so many stereotypes and ideas that people have about the identity of “being black” and many of them are ridden with ignorance. However, I believe that’s because so many that have told our stories have told it only from one end. There is no specific version of being black, who you UNIQUELY ARE brings that much more dynamic to our culture. I have no shame about being who I am in the country I am from. It’s actually my ancestors history here that makes me feel so damn POWERFUL!!!!!!! I’m not sad to look back at a past that may include hurt and oppression because I also know it includes perseverance, strength and STRONG ROOTS IN FAITH and THAT is what I pull from.
