You’ve probably seen the viral photo of House Speaker Nancy #Pelosi applauding President #Trump at the State of the Union on Tuesday. (If not, swipe left to take a look.) Here’s the man behind the image of @speakerpelosi: veteran #nytimes photographer Doug Mills. Naturally, he’s photographed here positioned behind a camera at the U.S. Capitol. “Being the pool photographer on the floor is so exciting because it’s one of the few places in D.C. that we see on TV all the time, but photographers are only allowed on the floor for this one evening,” @nytmills said. As for the work of photographing the #SOTU: “With it comes a lot of pressure to produce. It’s such a unique opportunity. I enjoyed every minute of it,” he said. “Every Washington icon is in attendance and the light is beautiful. It’s really hard not to make a photo in that room.” @sarahsilbiger shot this photo of Doug, who has been a photographer in The New York Times’s Washington bureau since 2002. He’s a 2-time #Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and previously served for 15 years as the chief photographer for @apnews in Washington, D.C.
