Ask members of the buying public a question like, "Do you want brands to pay their workers a living wage," and a majority of people will say yes, they do want that. A recent survey sponsored by Changing Markets Foundation and Clean Clothes Campaign found that 51% of US consumers would be disinclined to buy from brands that produce in sweatshops. However, in actuality, it is definitely not the case that 51% of shoppers are boycotting brands on that basis.
There is a conundrum with the phrase "ethical consumer," because there is an overwhelming amount of work to do to shop our way to progress.
