Damn dog. This is kinda messin me up. I grew up in a 1st generational vcr society (meaning I was the designated programmer for “the stories” for any & everybody who didn’t know how to program a vcr in the 80s) all my repeat customers were #YoungAndTheRestless @cbs watchers (including my own). I remember once @シャキール・オニール & @victoriarowell walked into @officialtowerrecords on sunset & got #DoYouWantMore, I lost my mind because “I grew up with her” (not an expert on the history of soaps but Im assuming the development of #NeilAndDrucilla was a major step forward in an non inclusive world in which there weren’t many people of color in prominent positions character wise—-(yeah yeah I know Dru was rough around the edges and eased into her sophistication later) come to think of it: when my pals at Ruffhouse asked for a solid by letting their group perform at The Roots record signing party my deciding factor wasn’t “I love the fugees!”(never heard of em) It was more “oh! that girl from #AsTheWorldTurns” has a rap group? Lol now we are a society obsessed w/ reality tv, mostly because it’s as vicariously as close as it will get to relatable people getting a taste of “the life”—but for most folk in the 70/80s? Everyone was hooked on soaps. Even w #JamesIngram passing last week, a MAJOR factor in his popularity was how #BabyComeToMe was KEY in the #LukeAndLaura Gen Hosp story. But man #KristoffStJohn!?...dude how weird is it for me to admit how he was key to a lot of my lifepaths. His non conformist-who didn’t-buckle-to-society’s expectation character who dated #DeniseHuxtable who wore mitch matched socks? This 14 year old was like “YEAH! I’m that guy!!” & remember on A Different World he played a similar surfer w massive hair always telling Denise “take it down 1000”? This 14 yr old was like “hmm maybe I’ll grow my hair bigger than that!”—he just always played these weird characters that never fit into the status quo and somehow sparked ideas into my own head. Always thought he’d get a kick into knowing he “might” have been the spark that led to this afro. Sad man. Rip Kristoff.
