Yesterday I spent the day at the border visiting shelters for adults and children who are both detainees and deported. With the help of @thisisabouthumanity and @elsamariecollins and @zoe.winkler.reinis we were able to hear their stories. I feel a bit conflicted sharing stories when I am not a journalist, but everyone we met, the people who ran the shelters as well as the residents, asked us many times to share their stories.
This 16 year old boy came with his brother from Honduras to seek asylum because of extreme violence in his home. While on the bus on the journey to Mexico, his brother was pulled off of the bus and he has never seen him again. We cannot show his face for safety. When asked what his goals were for his life he responded “to be a good person. To be humble. “
