I don’t have the words to describe how furious, devastated, and disgusted I am by this. I find myself compartmentalizing the rage that I am feeling not only about this hateful act of terror, but of the silence and complicity of my fellow white and heterosexual people. Just a few days ago, it was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. And many people, including myself, posted that the holocaust did not begin in the gas chambers, but with the rhetoric of hate through stereotyping, scapegoating, and the general indifference of many people who did not directly commit these crimes but silently condoned them by not speaking out against them. Sometimes I find myself so frustrated with other white and heterosexual people (of all political affiliations), wondering how bad it has to get before we collectively up our level of engagement to stop this poison. Are we so resistant to discomfort that the surging violence against LGBTQ people, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color will continue to be an afterthought in our daily lives? Or will we finally commit to making this a priority in our lives? It is time to decide. NOW. # Repost from @ruralsurjnorcal - “I do not care if people you love wear that hat. It's not debatable, this is evil, homophobic racist terror. "Empire" star Jussie Smollett was brutally attacked by 2 men who beat him up, put his head in a noose and screamed, "This is MAGA country." Sources directly connected to Jussie tell TMZ, the actor arrived in Chicago from New York late Monday, and at around 2 AM he was hungry and went to a Subway. We're told when he walked out, someone yelled, "Aren't you that f***ot 'Empire' n*****?" The 2 men -- both white and wearing ski masks -- viciously attacked Jussie as he fought back, but they beat him badly and fractured a rib. They put a rope around his neck, poured bleach on him and as they left they yelled, 'This is MAGA country.'" #MAGA spells R-A-C-I-S-T “
