When I approached him to introduce myself he knew who I was before I even got to open my mouth and he told me that he was a fan of my work and he thanked me for everything I have been doing for the industry we both love so much... now this is usually a pleasantry at hairshows that people who are huge and iconic spread around to seem magnanimous... but Sam is not that guy. After an incredibly late night at the NAHA’s while everyone was sleeping off their hangovers I was prepping for an early morning class that started before the show doors even opened. And when I looked up in the audience... there was Sam... I was blown away. He sat through almost the whole class (I ran over 2 hours because I talk too much). He didn’t look down at his phone once, he was incredibly present, and was really focussed on what I was sharing, nodding along in agreement and laughing at my stupid jokes. Long story short he puts his money where is mouth is and that in my mind is what integrity looks like. So thank you Sam for teaching us about more than just haircutting with your words and your actions. You set a higher standard for guys like me to aspire to.
