After completing last year’s 365 Project, I wanted to take on another personal project where I had to give myself some deadlines. Opting out of the daily image, I decided to make photos every month around the full moon. I’ve always loved night photography, light play, and the way the moon lights up the world even in the dark. Moon shadows are one of my very favorite things.

Of course, this first month was unique with the Super Wolf Blood Lunar Eclipse, or whatever it was called. Instead of the moon illuminating the night scenes, it was red and dark and moody and made whatever concept I had in mind way more challenging.

With some friends, we hiked up the mountain in my backyard and danced around with some LEDs. The scene was dark, except for the city’s glow, of course. We howled at the moon, and had fun watching how these long exposures turned out.

I’m looking forward to experimenting with light and darkness this year. So if you look up and see a full moon in 2019, think to yourself “I wonder what Lauren’s shooting.” Thank you @gogrey @caitran @planetarypatrick @meganisfein and @hanna.lahandmade for doing moon stuff with me. And thanks to @audreyobscura for the foot pedal that allowed me to shoot super long exposures. ?
