In Bangladesh, where garment workers have been in ongoing protests since the country’s 2018 minimum wage rise fell far short of a liveable income, demonstrators continue to face violence and harassment. Today, it was reported that a female Bangladeshi garment worker producing for major UK brands faced physical abuse and death threats after losing her severance pay.
The story serves as a reminder of why we need greater transparency in the fashion industry, so that the people who make our clothes can receive fair pay, a safe place to work, and a job that is free from violence, abuse, and harassment.This issue is bigger than any one brand or factory, but we can all start by asking the brands we love, #whomademyclothes
