Mississippi anchorwoman Brittany Noble-Jones was unceremoniously terminated from her job as anchorwoman of CBS affiliate WJTV. She cites a culture of racism as the cause. Her natural hair became a major cause for concern within the newsroom. At one point in time she was even told by a higher up that it was, "the equivalent to him throwing on a baseball cap to go to the grocery store." In addition to the obvious racial discrimination, she also faced an uphill battle as a new mother. After the announcement of her pregnancy she was no longer asked to participate in commercials, and her stories were given to white reporters.
Noble-Jones' story is yet another reminder that true equality is yet to be realized in every strata of American society, and the final frontier is still, unfortunately, the professional sector.
