I really can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years already. The girl on the left was severely underweight, had to go to the bathroom constantly, Sick with a new “cold” every week, never felt full, had cotton mouth, craved water by the gallons, and had lost touch with the things that had been important to her. All because of a little thing called the pancreas. I knew nothing about T1D before I was diagnosed, and this day was full of tears and a lot of fear. But just months later I was healthier, on an insulin pump, cut my hair off, pierced my ears (wasn’t afraid of needles anymore lol), and felt nervous but excited for the road ahead - because I now knew I would at least have one, no matter how rocky it would be. Diabetes has never stopped me, instead it’s fueled me to go farther and work harder. I want to show my 13 year old self that this day was not a death sentence, it was merely another hurdle to jump on my way to being who I hoped to be one day. I know this is a lot to read, but I would like to say a few more things. To my T1D followers: you’re not alone. This disease can be very isolating. It’s a never ending, uphill battle and every time you think you’ve got it your body throws you another curve ball. But whether it be the “why me” moments or the “I finally got that A1C I worked for” victories, you’ve got an army of other diabuddies cheering you on. At least, I know you’ve got me cheering. To any followers who don’t know much about Type 1 Diabetes: please research! Knowledge is everything. You could save a friend’s life by knowing the warning signs. And to any supporters (family members, friends, doctors, or nurses of those with T1): WE ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL. You are what keeps me sane. You are what reminds me why I don’t give up when I’m frustrated. You make me want to fight hard to be as healthy as I can. Thank you for everything; from tolerating my moods when my sugar is crazy, to running to get me juice in the middle of the night, to holding my hand even when I say ‘I’ve got this’ (bc sometimes I don’t got this). 💙」1月17日 5時45分 - missmarymmouser
