Yara, 10, in Za’atari refugee camp, still has the doll her father gave her in Syria. “Her name is Farah… I take care of her because I love her.” Yara tells us. “It got scary in Syria. There were shootings. Dad said ‘get your stuff together, we’re going.’” “I wanted to bring [my] teddy bear here but my parents said no, it was too big. So I put Farah in my bag. I told her we’re going to Za’atari. I told her don’t make any sound because if you do, we can’t go in. She was scared.” “We were both happy when we arrived in Za’atari. I brought a pink dress too just like Farah’s.
