A friend sent me this picture this morning and it brought me back so many memories. 10 years ago today. I was 19 years old here. I was basically broke and down to the last $800 that I had saved. Living in a tiny shared 2 bedroom student apartment with 3 other guys in north Hollywood, California. I’d moved out to LA for a year, hoping to get a record deal. @chrisanokute (on the left of the picture) was helping me out, introducing me to whoever would meet me, writers, producers, I was chasing every possible door. My return ticket home fast approaching, and had no idea what was gonna happen. I’d quit my job back home, so I didn’t have much to go back to. I was making music everyday, hustling as hard as I could, but nothing was happening. Chris was keeping my head up, telling me to keep fighting, but LA is a scary place when you don’t know anybody, and the music business was even scarier to me at the time. I’d sent some music to @serge_khalifa over MySpace, and a few days after this pic was taken he called me saying he had some interest from a major label. Things just suddenly turned around and a few months later I was in Europe promoting my first record. These were really hard but exciting times for me. Everyday was a challenge. It was scary. But it made me who I am today and I wouldn’t go back and change it for anything. Everyday is still a hustle, it’s still twisting and turning, but I fucking love it. Never stop hustling. It’s in your hands.
