This picture brings back a lot of fond memories of being 12 years old and making it to my first National Championships in 1993. It also reminds me of all the sacrifices my parents made in order to make my skating dreams come true. The year I made it to these Championships was also the same year that my parents told me and my sister that we might have to quit skating because they couldn't afford new skates, coaches, costumes and ice time. It was through sheer grit, determination and a lot of scrappiness that I made it (no coaching, used skates and borrowed costumes to name a few). But it was also through the help of foundations like @womenssportsfoundation (travel and training grant), @usfigureskating, Ice Castle and some special individuals that helped me along the way. #feelinggrateful #tbt #dreams #grit #dontgiveup
