"Orangutans love water! I have never seen one swim (although I once saw a video of a captive orangutan in a life-jacket swimming) in the wild. But I once saw a wild adult female orangutan cross a narrow stretch of the Sekonyer River by Camp Leakey by holding onto vegetation with one arm as she reached for low-lying tree branches on the other side of the river with her free arm. The only part of her body above water were her nostrils, nose, and face above her nose. In this video young wild born ex-captive orangutans in the process of rehabilitation play in rain-filled puddles in the peatswamp forest of OFI’s Care Center where rescued orangutans are rehabilitated for life back in the wild. Oh, how the young ones play!
