‘Aleksander’ @importantartpublication ? A new photostory by @bex_day styled by @lorenamazastyling ? Hair by @attila.kenyeres ? About - ‘Aleksander’ is a styled series about Aleksander who Is transgender. I wanted the series to encourage integration and actually look past the fact that she is transgender and rather embrace her identity as a human. We shot in Berlin where she lives.’ #BexDay Bex Day is a self-taught female fashion and documentary photographer and filmmaker born in London. Bex’s images are often raw, confrontational, and controversial; hyper-detailed, sharp and striking views of alternative and utterly legitimate forms of normality. Her interest lies in empowerment and celebrates diversity, gender fluidity and freedom of choice. Bex’s work focuses on humanity. Anthropological with a twist of the surreal, her imagery has the ability to tell a complete story within one frame, a factor aided by carefully selected locations, casting, lighting and positioning. Through the encouragement of ambiguity within her work, the viewer is often encouraged to relish a long, sustained look at minute details within the imagery. Thinking outside of the box is her forte. Pushing boundaries is predominant in her work, detaching from social norms and what she considers dated beauty ideals. Bex casts her subjects not by size or gender, but according to their unique look, personality and an emotional connection towards them. Preferring to shoot in film, Bex veers away from retouched, digital imagery in favour of the honesty and realness that comes with analogue. Her work is challenging and raw, capturing individuality at its best and most endearing. See more today on vogue.it and via Link in Bio. #photostories
