I spend a lot of time hating myself for what I haven’t accomplished yet, chasing after dreams and ambitions that feel impossible to reach. This year, I didn’t accomplish lot of things I hoped to creatively or professionally and for this, I felt like I had really blown it. But then I decided to reflect and look back on what had transpired and I realized that so many WONDERFUL things happened that weren’t even necessarily on my “list”. And I think it’s an important lesson to learn… letting go of our expectations of what is “supposed” to happen and embracing the path that opens up in front of you. So, if you’ll indulge me, I’m going to share some of the things I’m most proud of from this year and I’d love to hear some of yours!
I finished filming my first feature film as a writer/director alongside @erobertcarroll, @itskimwhalen and @rachidfakhoury. It’s been a 4 year labor of love and was harder than I ever imagined but we’re into the editing process now and I am very proud of the work we did as a creative team. I guest starred up on #StuckInTheMiddle on Disney in what was actually one of the most fun roles and best experiences I’ve ever had working on a show. I wrote and directed 13 short films all over the country. Shared in the honor of receiving the Youth in Cinema award at the Burbank International Film Festival for a film I wrote and directed last year. I completely overhauled my podcast @story.matters with the help of my amazing new co-hosts @itskimwhalen and @miketobiaspoetry. Kicked off #StoryMattersCinema with an original short film #TinderLovin’ starring @ライカー・リンチ @chiaravittoria and @itskimwhalen with the help of @rachidfakhoury @gordydestjeor @gusdestjeor. And ended the year with 2 voice over bookings!
And most importantly, I feel this year was one of tremendous personal growth as both an artist and a person. The process of “failing” taught me so much about my values and faith and what it means to be content and grateful in this present moment. I am so very blessed. Here’s to 2019.
