In our summer 2018 issue roundtable of young gun control activists standing for change in the US, we talked to @niaxain and @carterxretac who co-founded @youthpowercollective together — a student activism movement in Pittsburgh that want their voices heard. ⠀

Talking to us then, @niaxain reflected on the inextricable social-economic factors that feed into the issue of gun violence too: ⠀

“Our government doesn’t give the right support to stop these things from happening. (Which means) economic support, because violence and poverty go hand in hand. When you make violence the hood’s economy, that’s what happens. Our government knowingly lets these neighbourhoods exist as impoverished, and lets people with mental health issues slide under the radar, and things never really get addressed.”⠀
