I was so appalled at the treatment and exposure of two totally innocent people last week over the Gatwick Drone fiasco . My heart goes out to them and their loved ones .
Their treatment by the media was utterly abhorrent in my opinion.
In this country the individual is innocent until proved guilty and should be treated accordingly. There is no case to be made that knowing who these people were was in the public interest.
This felt akin to ignorant and vile medieval behaviour, like putting someone in the stocks to be publicly pilloried or throwing suspected witches ( virtually always women incidentally ) into the river to see if they sank or floated . ( If they floated they were guilty and therefore burnt alive , if they sank they were innocent....and dead .) We must not have a justice system run by the mob rule and the bloodthirsty salacious media .
People , whoever they are must be treated as innocent until they are proven in a court of law to be guilty . This is the absolute basis of a fair and decent justice system.
This goes for everybody, whatever their suspected crime or whatever the media think of them .
We need a humane and just way of treating people in step with all the educated and enlightened values we aspire to have as a modern civilised and hopefully intelligent society.
