Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will step down from his post, President Trump announced on Dec. 20, marking the Trump administration's latest high-profile departure. The news from #Mattis, who will leave by the end of February, came one day after the president announced a controversial withdrawal of American troops from #Syria. In his resignation letter, the Associated Press reports, Mattis, photographed in Washington, D.C., in October, alluded to disagreements with #Trump as the reason for his departure, writing: “because you have the right to have a secretary of defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position."
