Today we learned that Penny Marshall passed away. Growing up in the woods of Rhode Island, the TV was my most reliable friend. If I was bullied at school I knew I could watch my favorite show, “Laverne and Shirley,” and I would laugh the pain away. Laverne was my spirit animal. She was messy, lazy, and sassy. She worked hard, wasn’t socially successful, but was a good friend. I loved her. I felt like things would be ok for me because of her. Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams were one of the all time great duos. The physical comedy thrilled me and shaped my ideas about what is funny. I was changed be them. God speed Penny. And thank you. #lavernandshirley
