1999. Las Vegas, the Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill tour w @TheRoots as opening act. Place is sold out to the rafters we might be at @mgmgrand. #MsHill might be an hour into the set. She is red hot right now some 7 months after her historic @The GRAMMYs win early in feb, so this is a victory lap of sorts. Gotta be late 99 because our #ThingsFallApart is making noise too. I’m at the side of the stage and I think she doin “Every Ghetto, Every City” rockin it w everyone In the palm of her hand when suddenly she peers deep into the “mosh pit” (yeah no one is “moshing” per se but this is prime Lauryn and the energy is red hot shoulder to shoulder and then....Lauryn stops singing.....”wait...wait....stop stop!” (She shushes band to a slow halt—-so now we all concerned, what’s going on here!?....she looks at these kids in the mosh pit and says “Uh...wait..#NancyWilson...is that you down there?” In a sea of what seems like a hundred jillion sardine pack kids you hear a muffled voice say:

LH: why are you down there in the mosh pit Nancy Wilson?
NW: (((((cause this is where the fun is))))) LH: (to our direction) wait....we can’t have this can we get her a chair on the side for her?
NW: oh no!! I’m having too much fun dancing!!!
LH: (kinda to herself) man I cannot believe that the legendary Nancy Wilson is dancing in the mosh pit at my show....you SURE you ok??
NW: yes girl!!!!!
LH: (signals band start song from the top)
NW: (dances like no one is watching her) —-actually I went towards the press pit in the front so I can watch Nancy Wilson get her life back dancing to Lauryn Hill. That was such a “walk it like I talk it” moment—-having pegged her as a posh jazz singer I woulda never guessed she was into our kinda music but man....she taught me a lesson that day. Rip Nancy Wilson!
