Today is International Mountain Day, ?#internationalmountainday ?, as set by the #UnitedNations. A fifth of the the world’s population lives in the mountains and depends on the water and resources from these inspiring landforms. For a few of us, mountains are are a spiritual home for humanity. We see the peaks and valleys as a source of rejuvenation, we challenge ourselves on the wrinkles (and in the course find fitness!), we see the peaks as the abode of the Gods.
Majesty and serenity aside, mountains are under threat due to #climatechange, #landdegradation and #populationburdens. Glaciers store water, forests provide oxygen and a variety of plants create sustenance. We need to act on climate and “be there” for the mountains.
Take a moment and offer thanks for places that inspire and sustain us. “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.” ~ John Muir
