In a revival of Franco Zeffirelli’s classic staging at the State Opera here in October, the soprano Aida Garifullina knocked over a table, flirted with a soldier and tossed her cape at the state councilor Alcindoro as she sang about how people stop and stare at her beauty when she walks down the street.

Ms. Garifullina, 30, is turning heads both on and off the stage. At the State Opera, she is a rising star, having sung at the televised Opera Ball in 2015 and appeared alongside the leading tenor Juan Diego Flórez in Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” last season. Next May, the duo will return as Gilda and the Duke in Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” Her first album, which bears her name, won an Echo Klassik Award in Germany this fall for best solo recording. Next season, Ms. Garifullina will make her debut at the Metropolitan Opera, as Zerlina in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.” But she has also joined the crossover tenor Andrea Bocelli at the Colosseum in Rome; appeared in the 2016 film “Florence Foster Jenkins,” starring Meryl Streep; and posed for Russian Vogue.........” (to read the full review you can go the official web site of NYT )
