Nori - our first morning in Tokyo, @ben_moon & I were on dawn patrol for coffee due to jet lag. When we rolled up to @deusresidence the doors & windows were open allowing the rays of sunlight to limber up the cafe portion of the Motorcycle shop. However, we walked in, only to find that the coffee wouldn’t be hot for another 15 minutes. On our way back out I noticed a man in a yellow, weathered cap stone faced working on the espresso machine. His face was familiar to me yet held an expiration of mystery. So much that Ben & I both made note of his austere while we waited for the Ok to re-enter. - The next morning I returned alone determined to figure out what was kicking me about this guy. I concluded that I was jealous of his fierce aura. I wanted that. He demanded respect by saying nothing. I so badly wanted to steal that from him & take it to the pitchers mound with me. That’s what I’m missing, I thought. But then I met him & though we conversed through his broken English & my zero out of 10 Japanese he showed me how wrong I was. Nori toured me around the shop showing me how incredibly kind hearted & joyful he was. We talked motor bikes, surfboards, coffee & baseball, laughing & high 5ing the entire time. (High 5s & knuckles are multi-lingual). Naturally, the next day I returned & took this photograph of him standing beside his fully custom ‘98 Harley Sportster because sometimes being wrong is much better than being right.
