Today is my Momma’s birthday & I’m late posting bc I was thinking about what to say all day.... so here it goes. My mom is a badass, she is a survivor, & the reason I’m able to thrive in a world that is determined to crush me. -

As a single mom who had dealt with so much trauma, so young, she never let her disability slow her down. (Despite doctors saying she would never walk again, but my mom is stubborn as hell, like me ??‍♀️) Growing up all over the south & moving as much as we did wasn’t easy. We didn’t have much, but we never went without- she made sure of that & she always managed to make everything feel so special. Some of my fondest memories were going to dollar stores to pick little treasures out, & to the discount bakery & grocery store where she would let us pick out snacks for school. Although we never went back to the discount grocery store after finding maggots (??) in our cereal, but even that was met with laughter from my mom. -

When I was a teenager, others would say “oh she is going through a stage” but my mom urged me to embrace my quirky ness, even if she hated my bondage pants & baby doll tees. ? She also bought me @kevynaucoin’s book ‘Making Faces’ when I expressed interest in being a makeup artist & it was that book that lead me to the career I have now as a model. I could go on & on, but you guys get it. -

Now that I’m a mom of two kids with a hectic life & even more hectic career, I don’t know how my mom did it. I’m even more appreciative of her for not killing me bc I was a brat (still am tho) & for encouraging me to chase my dreams, no matter how wild they were. She introduced me to classics (& now favs of mine) like peanut butter & chocolate, folded over Lay’s potato chips, B.A.P.S, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Def Leopard, Tracy Chapman, Law & Order, & the Clueless dictionary so I could annoy her even more with the origins of “As-If!” So Happy Birthday Mom @nonnab2! Thanks for raising a freak like me! ?
