@myshellparker opening it up at ~18,000ft on one of Cotopaxi’s wide open slopes yesterday morning. It took us around 90 minutes to descend from the summit, stopping every so often to shoot photos and recover from the waves of nausea both of us were experiencing ???. It was my first real day on skis since April and that combined with the mild altitude sickness made me feel a little hesitant off the top. But watching Michelle navigate the terrain with the utmost poise and mountain sense, discussing decisions with me, and encouraging me to have confidence in my own abilities helped calm my nerves and ski how I knew I was capable of. That kind of trust and comfort between partners is both invaluable and sometimes hard to come by. Michelle and my partnership is based on that kind of support system - both of us coming from different mountain backgrounds, expanding into each other’s respective disciplines, pushing each other and learning from one another, and striving to the best and most well-rounded athletes we can be. It’s rare to find someone with such a diverse skill set as well as the motivation and drive to step outside their comfort zone to expand and improve those skills.
