This week’s #Rolemodelmonday goes to Kendall Ciesemier, a Georgetown alumni, who started the organization, Kids Caring 4 Kids to empower young people to help provide basic human needs to children living in sub-Saharan Africa. When Kendall was 11, she saw an episode of Oprah regarding the plight of Orphans in Africa. Despite Kendall’s personal issues of living with a chronic liver disease, she felt the need to help the kids in Africa and took action. She was matched to a child via the Worlds Visions sponsorship program, and soon after an 8 year old girl from Africa wrote to Kendall saying she would now be able to attend school for the first time. Because of her personal health, Kendall had two liver transplants and instead of accepting gifts post-surgery, Kendall asked her friends and family to donate money to the kids in Africa. After raising $15,000, she started Kids Caring 4 Kids to inspire kids to do their own fundraising. They have gone onto build a dormitory, an orphan care center, commuinty center and more. Since its founding, Kids Caring 4 Kids has engaged over 15,000 young people in the U.S. and raised 1 Million dollars to support programs providing access to clean water, healthcare, food and education in Africa.
