I started skimboarding in 1981 because it paralleled skating in many ways; an individual activity pioneered by a community of renegade, creative people riding waves (transitions) with a unique, daring approach. I saved my paper route money to buy my first skimboard; begging my dad to drive me to the Victoria HQ in Laguna because it was the epicenter of the skim community. I was hyped to get a legit board and spent many weekends after in OC skimming with @lesterkasai & @nblender. Since then, skimming has evolved to big waves and skate tricks thanks to pioneers like @billbryan & @braddomke.
