I wanted to tell all of my friends who love photography about an amazing new Documentary about the one and only @jaymaisel “Jay Myself". The film by Stephen Wilkes is a beautiful, funny and insightful love letter from a mentee about his mentor.
Jay has won numerous awards, but the awards don't do justice to the hundreds of young photographers that Jay has influenced. A true master of color photography his work stands alongside with #Ernest Haas, #DavidAlanHarvey, #PeteTruner, and #WilliamEggleston.
Somehow after moving to NYC and only being in the city for a few months, I found myself working for Jay in his legendary Germantown Bank building on the Bowery. I didn't stay very long but I was inspired by his vision that was about so much more than photography.
Nearly Twenty years later I was able to teach alongside Jay at the Jackson Hole workshops, I left the workshop inspired and in awe of his commitment to the craft after a career of over 60 years.
To my surprises, he wanted to trade prints and I was quick to oblige as I didn't want this opportunity to pass by. The last image is the one I selected, cheers to Jay and Bavo to @StephenWilkes for a wonderful film.
