Happy to welcome Malaysian PM (@chedetofficial) to the Istana this morning. Dr Mahathir’s visit kicks off a very busy week – he is the first of many foreign leaders who will be in town for the 33rd @asean Summit, which opens tomorrow.

Dr Mahathir and I discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, and agreed to work together to advance Singapore-Malaysia relations. Singapore and Malaysia are bound by ties of history and kinship, and we have close bilateral cooperation in many areas – economic, cultural, education, and security. Even if we do not hold the same views on all issues, we are committed to working out any differences peacefully and constructively.
Dr Mahathir and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali received the uniquely Singaporean honour of having an orchid named after them. Tomorrow, Dr Mahathir will be conferred an honorary doctorate by the @nus_singapore. Look forward to enhancing our positive and forward-looking relationship with our closest neighbour. – LHL ????
