World War I officially ended with the signing of The Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919. However, seven months earlier, the Allied nations and Germany stopped fighting when an armistice went into effect on November 11, 1918, which is generally regarded as the end of the “war to end all wars.” The following year, President Wilson proclaimed November 11th Armistice Day, and in 1954 Congress changed the name to Veterans’ Day to honor American Veterans of all wars. •
When the US entered World War I in 1917, women served both stateside and overseas with women’s organizations and in the US military, proving just how vital their presence was. Thank you to all those who served our country.
