This week, on the final day of the #RoyalVisitNigeria ?? The Prince of Wales visited the Commonwealth War Graves to lay a wreath and pay respects in this #Armistice100 year.
The Nigerian National Military Cemetery contains not only the Abuja Memorial erected by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission but also has memorials commemorating more recent conflicts.
The Abuja Memorial was constructed by the C.W.G.C. to honour servicemen of Nigeria who died in the First and Second World Wars. Inscribed on the monument are the names of those whose graves could not be maintained or located. Almost 1,000 lost their lives between 1914 and 1918, and over 1,100 died from 1939 to 1945.
