As I sit here and watch my 25 year old daughter cuddle my 5 day old daughter, just after, last night, my 30 year old son left after visiting — my dear children young and older — I can’t, without severe heartbroken pause, help but be reminded of all the issues our country faces and the rest of the affluent world like looking upon us in confusion, pity and a cringing lack of respect. We have a mental health problem alright, and it starts right at the top. Our leaders set the tone, as has always been the case in every country. To deny that is to be in the worst kind of denial imaginable. Look at your children and imagine them gone forever tonight, then imagine at that moment, with the greatest power of your imagination, what was most important to you as you convulsingly long for them.
