??Another tragedy that pierced my heart. It’s closer to home this time, literally. What are we, the grown ups, to do? Obviously what has been said and done so far isn’t working. These ongoing terrorist attacks are highlighting some major healing needed in our country. I don’t believe it’s any one problem because if that were the case it would be solved by now. But instead of pointing fingers we need the grown ups in the room to DO something. We voted this week. That helps. We need leadership owned by the people not big corporations/lobbying groups. We need to do more to protect our youth and ourselves. Mental illness is a major problem in our country, so is hyper masculinity that promotes anger as the only way for men to release negative emotion. Obviously we need better treatment for those suffering from PTSD. We definitely need our leadership to be above ego and to be calm and uniting not enticing the flames of hatred and blame. Access to guns to those who are not yet ready to respect them is important too and we debate on how to do that with no real solution happening because the NRA doesn’t want any sort of sensible gun control despite the majority of Americans agreeing we should create something that is a win/win. Good guys with guns help...but during a yoga class? At a bar when people are drinking? I don’t think that’s truly the solution either. Prayers and thoughts are good and necessary but they don’t fully heal the hearts and souls of those whose lives are torn apart because of a selfish act of hatred and hatred of self. Vulnerability is necessary... to be honest when we are hurting because under anger is hurt. Putting out angry and hatred online has consequences because words matter and can reinforce stories that can be inaccurate and dividing. What are we to do? How can we all be kinder to one another? To reach out when we see people hurting? How can this be the darkest before the dawn? How can we listen more and talk less to help those in need? How can we open our hearts instead of building walls and turning our backs? How can we be the change we want to see in the world? What do you think?
