Put your #VOTE where your VOICE is! I moved to the USA in my late teens. I found belonging and love in a place that had once been considered ‘foreign’. I created deep roots within the soil of this country. The US has given me more than I could ever dream of. Months before the 2016 presidential election, I became a citizen and with it received the unique gift of belonging to this country, ironically, it came during a time of deep rejection. On one hand, I felt empowered & embraced. On the other, I witnessed a man (campaigning for the highest office) and those of his ilk assault all that I and many others represent. Woman, immigrant, Mexican. This man would eventually become #45. I would talk to people that had the privilege of being citizens and I would hear remarks like... “Politics aren’t my thing...” or, possibly even more lamentable… “Well, if it doesn’t affect me, why bother?”. I would struggle to retain myself, all the while, like a broken record Plato’s phrase “The price of apathy towards public affairs, is to be ruled by evil men”, would play in my brain. People from both sides of the border wondered why I would care to actively participate with the politics of a country that openly discriminated against my kind and frequently, my answer was and still is… When “isms” like sexism, racism, elitism, classism, and more, elect a leader with concurrent views: it is our duty, not as citizens of a country with borders, but as citizens of the world without them, to stand up and speak up for each other, despite the odds, no matter the obstacle. When apathy becomes normalized and caring is no longer “in”, WE ALL LOOSE. Regardless of where we are from in this circular blue globe, the leaders that guide the evolution of our humanity should bear the reflection of the ‘best of us’. This is not the time to minimize how brazenly your vote/voice counts. This is not the time to give up on the humanity that reverberates so resolutely within your spirit. This is the time to care and demand change. This is YOUR moment USA... VOTE! Thank you for reading. #vota #whyivote #votewithus #ivoted #empowerwhatreflectsyourhumanity #votolatino
