Candelilla wax is obtained from a wild species that grows in the Mexican desert, Euphorbia Cerifera. The wax protects the plant against adverse climate conditions and helps to retain moisture. Candelilla wax is used by 14 of L’Oréal’s brands, mainly for make-up, hygiene, skincare and haircare. The candelilla wax used in L’Oréal’s products is 100% natural, pesticide free, non-GMO and has unique chemical composition.
L’Oréal sources candelilla wax from Multiceras, a Mexican supplier based near Monterrey city, with a strong collaboration network through the Chihuahuan desert. Aiming at supporting local economic activities, L’Oréal and Multiceras have had a sustainable sourcing agreement since 2016 through our solidarity sourcing project with the objective of improving the safety of the wax extraction process and the social security coverage for the Candelilleros, the local candelilla wax producers. ?Marine-Elise Clavet
