Exactly one week ago an amazing group of intersex people, activists and allies came together in the pouring rain to protest the ongoing medically unnecessary cosmetic genital mutilation and inhumane treatment of intersex infants and children. This practice continues every day at hospitals like New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, where surgeons like Dix Poppas teach, instruct and perform all types of harrowing experiments and surgeries on children in order to force their bodies to fit into an unrealistic binary standard. The @unitednations , @amnesty , @humanrightswatch , and many other organizations view these methods as outdated, torturous, and a clear violation of human rights.
