Since ?Halloween? is nearly upon us, we decided to get (a little) spooky with this sunday’s Sound and Vision. Naturally, Misfits came to mind first, being the progenitors of the “horror punk” genre and for their annual Halloween shows. They stayed true to the horror-inspired themes throughout the band’s multiple iterations, both before and after their 1983 breakup and 1995 reformation without lead singer and founder Glenn Danzig.
Picking an album is tough when it comes to the Misfits, considering they mostly released singles and that arguably their best album, “Static Age,” wasn’t released in its entirety until 1996. Instead of choosing a full length release, we’re highlighting their 1979 single “Horror Business,” which was their first release featuring the iconic “fiend” logo. The logo was originally taken from a Republic Pictures film serial titled “The Crimson Ghost,” and found its way onto a Misfits show flyer for a show at Max’s Kansas City. The logo fit so well that they used it on the aforementioned single and it stuck for the remainder of their career. ? #juxtapozsoundandvision
